The Exact Opposite of Okay – book review

Hi everyone

I hope you’re all well? Something slightly different for this blog…as a lot of you know my main hobby is reading, I’m never seen without a book in my handbag or my hand (unless I’m at work of course).

So this will be a review of one of my top 5 all time fave books! The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven, I would encourage anyone 16+ to read this book!

This story follows 18 year old Izzy O’Neil “Impoverished orphan, aspiring comedian and Slut Extraordinaire, if the gossip sites are anything to go by..”. Izzy never expected her world To be turned upside down until explicit photos of her and a politicians son start doing the rounds.

Izzy is someone I relate to so much, throughout her story she uses self deprecating humour to cope with the impact the photos are having on her life. I find myself always using self deprecation as a form of humour, if you make the joke first it means it doesn’t hurt as much as if someone else were to say it!

Laura Steven tackles the topic of revenge porn in a way that can educate anyone, it’s one of those taboo topics that people read about and just pretend it doesn’t exist. I can pretty much guarantee that someone you went to school with, university with, work with has been a victim of revenge porn.

Laura makes sure that she sends the message that if things don’t go your way it’s okay, it’s okay for life not to work out the way you planned! I always say we get dealt a set of cards in life but how you play them is up to you! You can let the world bring you down or you can rise above it and power through!

Laura Steven I salute you for showing females that we are strong and independent and can get through anything as long as you have a metric ton of nachos and a good friend by your side!

Definitely a 5 star read for me!

Signing off for now
